Earmuffs are ideal, particularly where noise levels fluctuate. In craft and industrial workplaces, there can often be periods of increased noise because a particular piece of equipment or a machine is being operated. Quick to put on and take off, ear muffs protect workers from excessive noise whilst allowing important sounds to be heard even during prolonged use: whilst the wearer can still hear conversations, machine noise is dampened so that only a safe residual sound level of 70 to 80 decibels is allowed through. Adjustable headbands and ear cups ensure that ear muffs adapt to the individual worker and are as comfortable as possible for everyday use.
