HOW DO SAFETY FOOTWEAR IN SAFETY CLASSES S1 AND S1P DIFFER?

S1 safety shoes are the ideal basic footwear for dry working environments. They feature a toe cap, a closed heel area and antistatic properties. They are ideal for use in warehouses and workshops. S1P safety footwear supplements the S1 standard with useful puncture protection. S1P safety footwear is required in work areas where sharp objects on the floor pose a hazard.

WHAT IS THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN SAFETY CLASSES S1 AND S3?

Class S1 and S3 safety footwear differ in terms of their protective functions and areas of use, with Class S3 footwear offering a higher level of safety. Both classes feature basic protective characteristics such as a toe cap capable of withstanding impact forces of up to 200 joules, as well as antistatic properties that prevent electrostatic build-up. In addition, the soles are fuel-resistant and protect against oil and petrol. Both classes of footwear have a closed heel area with energy absorption, which reduces strain on the joints and improves comfort. The main difference lies in the additional protective features of Class S3. Safety footwear in this class is fitted with puncture protection, which prevents injuries caused by sharp objects such as nails or glass. They also have a water-repellent upper that protects the feet from moisture and wet conditions. This makes them particularly suitable for working outdoors or in damp environments. Another feature of S3 footwear is the treaded outsole, which offers better grip on uneven or slippery surfaces.

Am I allowed to put my own insoles in safety shoes?

In principle, only if the insole does not compromise the safety features of the shoe. Many safety shoes are certified in accordance with EN ISO 20345 for use with specific soles. If a different insole is used, the certification becomes invalid and, consequently, so does the insurance cover.

Which insoles are permitted in safety footwear?

As a general rule, only insoles approved by the manufacturer or tested with the specific model are permitted. These are listed in the EC Declaration of Conformity.

How does the BOA fastening system work?

The BOA system uses a dial and steel cables instead of laces. Turning the dial tightens the fastening; pressing it loosens it. Advantages: can be fastened or unfastened in seconds, even pressure distribution, compatible with gloves and a lifetime guarantee.

What is the advantage of the BOA® system?

The BOA® Fit System allows for adjustment in a matter of seconds, with millimetre precision, even whilst wearing gloves. It ensures even pressure distribution, eliminates the risk of tripping over loose laces and is maintenance-free. The stainless steel cables are extremely durable and come with a lifetime guarantee.

Are S1 safety shoes suitable for outdoor use?

S2 or S3 are recommended for long-term outdoor use, as S1 does not offer water repellency.

For which occupations are S1 safety shoes suitable?

S1 footwear is particularly suitable for use in industry, logistics, warehousing, the trades and indoor environments where there is no risk of moisture.

For which applications is the RUNNER series particularly suitable?

The RUNNER range from ATLAS® is ideal for workplaces where a great deal of movement is required, such as in industry, logistics, the trades and the service sector. These sporty safety shoes offer optimum protection and comfort both in dry indoor environments (e.g. warehouses, production facilities) and for outdoor use (with S3 models). Thanks to their lightweight and breathable upper, they are particularly suitable for long working days and frequent standing or walking.

What sets the RUNNER range apart from traditional safety shoes?

The RUNNER models are characterised by their sporty design, low weight and innovative sole technology (MPU REBOUND SYSTEM). Unlike traditional safety shoes, they offer a significantly more dynamic, lighter feel when walking and particularly good cushioning. The breathable upper, made from microfibre and mesh, ensures a comfortable foot environment. Furthermore, all RUNNER models are suitable for orthopaedic insoles in accordance with DGUV 112-191 and meet the highest safety standards (S1P or S3).

Are RUNNER safety shoes also suitable for outdoor use?

Yes, the RUNNER range includes S3 safety-rated models that have been specially developed for outdoor use. These shoes feature a water-repellent upper and offer reliable protection against moisture, dirt and mechanical hazards. For outdoor work, on building sites or in changeable weather conditions, we recommend the S3 models from the RUNNER range.

Can I use my own orthopaedic insoles in RUNNER shoes?

All RUNNER safety shoes are certified in accordance with DGUV 112-191 and are therefore suitable for use with orthopaedic insoles. You can easily use your own insoles without compromising the shoe’s protective function. This is particularly beneficial for wearers with specific foot requirements or health needs.
