WHEN MUST ESD SHOES BE WORN?

ESD (Electrostatic Discharge) footwear is specially designed work footwear that safely dissipates electrostatic charges to prevent damage to sensitive electronic components or hazards caused by sparks. They are essential in certain work environments and are often required by regulations. ESD shoes prevent even minor discharges from damaging or destroying electronic components by dissipating the charge through the sole of the shoe. In many industries, standards such as DIN EN 61340-5-1 stipulate the use of ESD footwear to ensure product protection and occupational safety.

WHAT IS THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN SAFETY FOOTWEAR AND WORK FOOTWEAR?

Safety footwear is essential for workplaces with mechanical hazards and offers comprehensive protection thanks to its toe cap and other safety features. Work shoes, on the other hand, are designed for less hazardous environments and prioritise comfort and stability. Choosing the right footwear depends on the specific requirements of your workplace.

Which insoles are permitted in safety footwear?

As a general rule, only insoles approved by the manufacturer or tested with the specific model are permitted. These are listed in the EC Declaration of Conformity.

Which safety class for which occupation?

S1/S1P: Warehousing, logistics, light assembly

S2: Kitchens, cleaning, food

S3: Construction, skilled trades, outdoor assembly, agriculture

The employers’ liability insurance association provides sector-specific recommendations.

How can I tell when my safety shoes need replacing?

Replace if: tread depth is less than 3 mm, there are cracks in the upper, the protective cap is damaged, cushioning has deteriorated, fastenings are faulty, or after 12 months of intensive use at the latest.

What is the difference between S1 and S2 safety shoes?

S2 safety shoes offer the same features as S1 shoes, but are also water-repellent. They protect the feet from moisture and are therefore suitable for damp working environments.

When is it advisable to wear S2 safety footwear?

S2 footwear is ideal for jobs in the food industry, catering, healthcare, cleaning, construction and anywhere where damp conditions may be encountered.

How long do S2 safety shoes remain waterproof?

S2 footwear is water-repellent but not completely waterproof. For longer periods in the water, we recommend protection class S3 or our special GTX range with a Gore-Tex upper.
