How Testsieger.de tests safety footwear

The structured, five-stage assessment procedure is carried out under realistic practical conditions. The safety footwear is evaluated through a combination of real-world everyday use, documentation checks and conformity assessment. Each of the following categories is examined in detail and weighted according to its relevance to the wearer.

  1. Design and workmanship (10%): The testers assess the feel, structural integrity and visible weaknesses of the upper material. Seams, bonded joints and transitions are examined to ensure they are neatly finished. The weight is measured precisely and the basic fit is assessed to identify pressure points and evaluate the initial comfort without the need for a lengthy break-in period.
  2. Safety and Certifications (35%): Critical safety features such as toe protection and puncture resistance are assessed on the basis of official certificates and manufacturer’s documentation to avoid risky destructive testing. We confirm the presence of valid certification in accordance with EN ISO 20345 and the declaration of conformity, and check that any additional markings are correctly documented. This category carries the highest weighting, as safety is absolutely non-negotiable.
  3. Comfort and fit (25%): Comfort is taken very seriously, as safety footwear is often worn for hours on end. The assessors evaluate long-term comfort during prolonged standing, as well as cushioning and the overall foot climate. Lacing, ease of entry and heel support are assessed in detail. The shoe must provide a secure fit without restricting your natural movement.
  4. Outsole and suitability for everyday use (20%): Slip resistance, tread pattern and stability are assessed on dry and controlled wet surfaces to gain a realistic impression. We rigorously assess torsional stability during lateral movements, as well as how easy the sole is to clean. Visible wear and tear after several days of testing is also factored into the final assessment.
  5. Features and care (10%): The contents of the pack, the level of care required and practical details such as reflectors round off our assessment. The ease of changing the insoles is also tested to ensure you have the best possible user experience in everyday life.

The final result is based on a transparent and weighted points system. This approach assesses every relevant aspect of a safety boot fairly and systematically.
