ATLAS work shoes: Work shoes for every application.

‘Work shoes’ is the umbrella term for safety footwear and work boots worn in a professional environment. They are available in a wide variety of protection classes, styles and designs, ranging from lightweight trainers for the warehouse to fully waterproof boots for the building site. ATLAS has been manufacturing the entire range – ‘Made in Germany’ – since 1910.

Safety footwear or work footwear: what’s the difference?

Safety footwear protects against serious hazards in the workplace. They always feature a toe cap (200 joules) and are the right choice for construction, industry, logistics and all sectors where falling objects, sharp edges or heavy loads are part of everyday work.

Work shoes do not have a toe cap. They have been designed for environments where comfort, slip resistance and hygiene are more important than protection against impacts. Typical areas of use include care, kitchens, catering, retail and the service sector.

An overview of protection classes

Safety footwear is categorised into classes that define the level of protection and the protective functions. The higher the class, the more comprehensive the features.

  • S1 / S1P: Feature a toe cap, antistatic properties, a closed heel area and energy absorption in the heel area. Ideal for dry indoor environments such as assembly areas, workshops and warehouses. The S1P variant also features puncture protection.
  • S2: Offers all the features of S1 plus a water-repellent upper. A reliable choice for food processing, cleaning and other damp indoor environments.
  • S3: The classic choice for the construction industry. Combines a toe cap, puncture protection, a water-repellent upper and a treaded, slip-resistant outsole. Suitable for building sites, roofing work, gardening and landscaping, as well as heavy industry.
  • S5 / S7: Fully waterproof safety boots made from rubber or polyurethane. Designed for agriculture, waste management, road construction and all tasks involving water, mud or slurry.

Work footwear categories

Work footwear is designed for activities where a toe cap is not mandatory, but where comfort, hygiene and slip resistance are priorities.

  • O1: Antistatic, with a closed heel area and energy absorption in the heel. Developed for dry indoor work such as care, service and retail.
  • O2: Adds a water-repellent upper to the features of O1. Popular in commercial kitchens, the hospitality sector and other damp indoor environments.
